Breathe Your Way into Right Living
Gentle Yoga, Silent Meditation, and Breath Practice
Jan 31st-Feb 2nd, 2014
Please pass this on to those who could benefit from this experience!
NOTE: We will be moving our retreats at Breitenbush to once a year, Fall only, beginning October 24th, 2014.
Our fifth annual winter retreat is called Breathe Your Way into Right Living: Movement, Breath Practice and Silent Meditation.
We’ll stir it up, then settle it down. This retreat includes components of Buddhism, Yoga, Breath Practice, Meditation, Brain Science and Fitness for treating any Addiction. We will also be discussing and working with trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) topics. Please be prepared to open up a little. This is a completely safe environment and boundaries will be respected – the amount of work that you do is up to you. Change requires some courage and some trust. But if nothing changes, nothing changes. We’ll do the work with you and incorporate engaging and uplifting activities.
The format will be about doing some movement and some breath practice before getting into silent meditation. After meditation we’ll have discussions and work with Aspects of Self Dialogs. See The 12-Step Buddhist, Perfect Practice and The Power of Vow for details of the Aspects of Self process. Everything will be explained and no experience is required. Again, just be willing to be willing. Change will happen.
On this retreat, we’ll be doing all levels yoga. Anyone can participate. If you have injuries or other limitations, please let us know so that we can offer modifications. Be prepared to sweat! Bring a bottle for water and a hand towel. Wear loose fitting clothing to all sessions. *Jeans are not a good option! Don’t worry about not being flexible or in shape. Every single person will work at their own level and we’ll make sure you’re OK. You decide what your limits are.
We’re working on guest presenters as well. We’re blessed once again to have Mike Papas, a long-term Zen student of Joko Beck, from the Zen Center of Portland. Other guest presenters TBA. We always do our best to make it a fun, integrated, and transformative experience! Darren is a certified yoga teacher with over 400 hours of training. We will use a 12-Step Yogi/Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR) process. We’ll be working with some of the Y12SR meditations, group practices and gentle yoga on this retreat.
This is a warm community setting. Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be Buddhist or be in recovery to attend. If someone is struggling with sobriety, however, please contact us before registering. Couples are welcome and can likely get accommodations together.
Camping is not an option in the winter retreat setting.
All deposits are non-refundable. To secure your lodging choice, please include the lodging cost with your retreat fee. Lodging is given on a first come, first fully paid basis. NOTE: All monies must be in full by January 15, 2014 to reserve your spot. We’ve extended this to accommodate more people. IMPORTANT: we will not accept money at the retreat. You must be paid in full before the first day of retreat, otherwise, your spot can be given as a donation to someone who can’t afford the retreat. It’s very difficult to manage money once we begin the retreat and outstanding administrative tasks tend to get in the way of a great retreat experience!
You may register by PayPal by using the button below. Calculate your $110 (early-bird) retreat fee and add your lodging fee. Lodging fees are listed for the full weekend per person. If you would rather pay in person or by check, send an email to Tysa Fennern. Tysa will be handling all lodging assignments, registration questions, and dietary needs. If you have any questions about the retreat topics or details, please contact Darren.
Please see the Breitenbush Hot Springs website for details, directions and restrictions. If you are coming from out of state, please register on their site for ride sharing. We will also have ride sharing through the 12-Step Buddhist Google Group. Register for that under the Resources Tab on https://www.the12stepbuddhist.com
Note: The retreat dates are on a Friday through Sunday schedule.
Please note: Breitenbush prices have been raised a little. It’s a bit complicated and we apologize. But it’s worth it. The retreats are always great. *All deposits and fees are non-refundable. Please communicate with Tysa about lodging and all other logistics. PLEASE DO NOT CALL BREITENBUSH.

There are many great reasons to rideshare, from reducing greenhouse gases and saving money to meeting new people. We now have a Breitenbush rideshare website which is available to our registered guests. Information about connecting to the site is included in confirmation emails we send. If you have questions about the rideshare site, feel free to ask us when making a reservation or send us an email.
The Rideshare site is only intended for Breitenbush guests and staff. We also have people with some space in their cars. Email Tysa Fennern if you’re having trouble getting your own ride. It takes about 2 hours from SE Portland to get up there. SPECIAL NOTE: USE ONLY DIRECTIONS PROVIDED BY BREITENBUSH in the confirmation emails sent prior to the retreat.
